A man who entered a Brookfield home last night has been charged with felony burglary.

According to an email to the Landmark from Brookfield Deputy Police Chief Terry Schreiber, a homeowner on the 4100 block of Prairie Avenue called 911 at about 8:54 p.m. Thursday to report an unknown man had entered their home through a rear sliding door. The man fled the home after being confronted by the homeowner, who gave police a detailed description of the man’s clothing and told them which direction he went.

Officers from Brookfield and the surrounding municipalities arrived at the area and found a man running wearing clothing that matched the homeowner’s description. Schreiber said the officers detained the man, whom they saw was out of breath and who told them, “I’m out on parole and don’t want to go back.” The man was arrested after being “positively identified” as the person who entered the home that night.

The man had been paroled on Jan. 17 on charges of attempted burglary, burglary, residential burglary, aggravated fleeing and theft, Schreiber said. The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office approved one residential burglary charge, which is a felony, and will be conducting a detention hearing today.

The full police report was not approved for release by Friday morning, Schreiber said.
